Create memories & put them in a jar

I’ve been itching to write on my blog again so I was trying to think of something creative to write about and as I was sitting in class I remembered my memory jar sitting on my nightstand, so I’d thought I’d share.

Last spring I saw this really cute idea on Pinterest, go figure, and it was too easy and fun to pass up. I was scrolling through the thousands of ideas and pins under the DIY section and came upon a memory jar.  Basically, you just write down memories and put them in a jar so when you’re feeling down or want to reminisce, you pour them all out and it cheers you right up!  I started the night I saw the idea and have dozens of memories written on post-it notes, ticket stubs, movie stubs and wristbands.

Tonight after class,  I dumped out the contents and had a blast remembering all the fun times I had throughout the last year.  It’s such a great mood booster! Everyone should do this, it’s too easy and fun to pass up.

Some of 2012’s best memories:

June 23rd – My uncle had a birthday bash at his house the day after I got back from Australia.  I got to see family members I usually only see during the holidays and I got to spend the evening with my boyfriend after being away for a month. This is the night I’m pretty sure I fell head over heels for him as we went to get beer at the store and he was singing country songs. 🙂

Wristband from Eldora Speedway – I went down to Ohio with my boyfriend and his aunt and uncle for my first race experience and I had an absolute blast.  We went out to a couple of bars the night before the races, and the day of the race we spent more than 12 awesome hours at the tracks.  I got pretty spoiled for my first experience – we got pit tickets so I was able to wander through the hundred plus race cars and walk underneath the track to the pits.  I stood less than 10 feet from cars going upwards of 100mph racing around the curves.

April 13 (yes, it was a Friday) – Jeff came down to see me for the first time.  We’d been texting for weeks, never even talked on the phone until he was 10 minutes from my apartment. It was definitely one of the best days in a very long time.  We walked around the local park talking about stuff since I hadn’t talked to him in about 6 years.  We had dinner at Bdubs, went bowling and then rented a bunch of Will Ferrell movies. 🙂 perfect day.

May 22 – Started dating my guy. Got a pretty good feeling bout this.

June 22 – Landed in Brisbane, Australia to begin my 4 weeks of volunteer and adventure! Went out to Family Nightclub and I just wanted to dance.  Beer and tequila will do that.

June 23 (also) – My aunt, uncle and their 3 kids came to visit for a week. I rarely ever get to see them! We were finally able to celebrate all the kids birthdays together.  We had my 6 cousins and then my niece and nephew were there.  That’s eight kids under the age of 8. Every one of them a year apart.

May 12 –  I went home waiting for my niece or nephew to be born.  Went to Outback for dinner and then to the movies to see The Avengers and both me and my boyfriend fell asleep within 30 minutes. So we left.

May 13 @ 4:14am – My sister called me and told me to get to the hospital pronto so I could meet my niece or nephew. She wouldn’t tell me what it was over the phone.  I got there 25 minutes later to meet my beautiful niece, Madalyn. I was the second one to meet her besides her parents.  I’m so glad I’m close with my family.

July 28 and 29 – My roommate from the previous two years came to have lunch with me at La Senoritas! That evening I drove to Clare to camp with her family for the night, it was a great time! The next day my sister and her family met up with me for ice cream,  That evening my mom, her fiance and his brother and sister-in-law came to have a couple drinks with me before they went to a concert.

July 30 – Went to the Jake Owen and Florida Georgia Line concert in Harrison. We tailgated in the parking lot until cops on horseback’s told us to go into the concert.  Jake Owen actually came and hung out with us, barefoot, for awhile with his wife.  He even gave us a bottle of moonshine. It was a great night.

July 5 – Went camping in with my boyfriend and his daughter and went out on the boat.  Dad came out to hang out for a little while.  Another good day.

Sometime in August – Went to Blake Shelton’s concert. Miranda Lambert came on stage as a surprise!  It was with my roomie, her boyfriend and my boyfriend.  Had a blast with them.  Sucked I had to go to work afterwards while everyone else got to go to sleep.

So that’s just a couple of the awesome memories I had over the past year.  It’s hard to beat, but 2013 has already brought great memories because I am surrounded by people I love and care about and who I always have a good time with.

planning a cruise!

It feels like it’s been FOREVERRR since I’ve been on a vacation, and really, it’s been less than 8 months since I got back from a month in Australia. I still can’t believe I spent an entire month in the land down under! One of the best months of my life, such a great opportunity and experiences.

Now I am planning on a cruise with my guy 🙂 We’re going the first weekend in May which will be the day after my finals, and the week before my 8 weeks of summer classes aka hell, begins. I will be needing this vacation, but I also need to exercise and get in shape. Eating Taco Bell 3 times a week, and a Hot N Ready little Ceasar pizza to myself probably isn’t going to help. My roomie is letting me use her P90x so I am going to give that a try, even though it’s less than 90 days away.

I think as of right now we are going on a Carnival Cruise. We’re going to drive down to Detroit or Grand Rapids, hop a plane to Miami, stay at a hilton property (LOVVVVVEEEE my employee discount!!) and then ALL ABOARD! Drinks, sunshine, food and my wonderful guy. I’m pretty geeked.

life is going good

Good news is… I’ve become a morning person. Friday morning I woke up at 5:30am to find that the university had a snow day, so I went back to sleep until 7. I tried and tried to sleep some more but it escaped me. For the entire day I layed in bed watching episodes of Supernatural while doing random loads of laundry and washing dishes. I looked at the clock and it was 3pm, if it had been two weeks ago and we had a snow day I would have just been getting up but I had experienced a whole days worth of activities and my day wasn’t even half over. It was a damn good feeling.

More good news… I am in love. Completely, head-over-heels in love. My birthday was a couple weekends ago (Feb. 2 in case anyone cares…) and I was finally able to spend it at home with my family and friends, and boyfriend. Best birthday ever. On our way to my moms, he gave me pretty pink roses and a card that said he loved me. FINALLY. I sure as heck didn’t want to be the first one to say it, but it’s been on my mind for awhile. That night we went to the casino for all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet (be jealous) and then went to my sisters for drinks, cake and presents. I kicked my soon-to-be brother-in-law and boyfriends butts in a disc golfing game on Playstation Move. Good beginning to my 23rd year on this beautiful Earth.

Anywho, I am pretty darn happy with life. My classes (for the most part) are going exceptionally well and keeping me busy. I only have 132 days until I can move back home and be around everyone I care about. I am currently planning a vacation of 20 or so people in August, planning and organizing a scavenger hunt to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for a class, helping my sister with her wedding, and working on silent auction items for my PRSSA banquet in April. Therefore, the next couple of months will go by extremely quick.

the beginning of another semester…

The spring 2013 semester has begun and I am actually looking forward to it, for the most part.  My class schedule is pretty easy – I only have two MWF classes and they are over by 1pm. Then I have three night classes; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  I love my night classes – I am definitely not a morning person.

The only thing that sucks about this semester is I am pretty much alone.  One of my roommates has an internship downstate so she’s gone during the week and some weekends, and my other roommate doesn’t really talk to me and she’s never home anyways.  I want a dog but I’d feel bad leaving him at home.

The good thing is I am pretty busy planning events for classes, my sisters wedding in September and our PRSSA banquet in April.  That’s four events to keep me busy. And thankfully my awesome boyfriend bought me Black Ops 2 for Christmas so when I have an hour to spare or having a bad day I can just go kill zombies. Doesn’t get much better than that.

My 23rd birthday is coming up in a little over two weeks. I cannot wait to go home and go to Turtle Creek Casino for their crab leg buffet. Mhm, mhm, mhhhhhm! My sister’s birthday is exactly a week before mine so we will be celebrating both of ours.  And on the 15th I get to go back home to celebrate my little brothers 21st birthday!! I can’t believe he’s going to be 21 in less than a month, it kind of terrifies me.

And then a couple more months later, probably sometime in April, I am going on a cruise with my boyfriend and I can’t wait for that either.  I haven’t been on one since June 2008 so it’s about time.  It’ll also be nice to just get away with just him since I really don’t get to see him all that often and it blows. I’m so geeked! Relaxing in the warm sun, drinking and just not worrying about anything sounds so serene and wonderful right now.

I decided to take summer classes at CMU this summer which sucks and doesn’t at the same time.  I was hoping to move home for good May 5th after the spring semester ends, but I decided stay for six more weeks to take three classes will save me a ton of driving next spring semester, and hopefully I can do my internship during that time and actually graduate May 2014. Six long years later.

I’ve got so much to look forward to in the next year that I am very grateful I have so many amazing people in my life.  Moving home, actually getting to do things with my friends and family in the summer and not feeling left out because I’m stuck downstate at school and work, my sisters wedding, hopefully moving in with Jeff and a bunch of other stuff I am just so darn excited about.

This post was mainly just a rant.  I’ve been wanting to get on here for a couple of weeks now and just kept putting it off.

My goal this year is to become a morning person.  I want to wake up by 9am – work out – (especially if I’m going on a cruise with Jeff in a couple of months) and enjoy the day instead of sleeping until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I will see how this goes.

It’s Christmas Eve!

Man, Christmas has snuck up on me this year.  I remember thinking, Oh it’s September I will start shopping for Christmas even though I have three months to go. Yeah, right.  Although I did buy my niece a cute onsie that says Baby Sister and a headband for her parents wedding next year back in October.  But now it’s Christmas Eve and I just begun my Christmas shopping. This morning. At 10am. But that’s okay cause I am downstate at school working and won’t be celebrating Christmas until Friday night, so I got plenty of time, or so I tell myself.

I know Christmas is a time to be with family and not supposed to fret over presents but I hate deciding and choosing what to buy for people.  I want a straight answer so I get them something they want or need, and it makes me feel somewhat like a grinch.

“What do you want for Christmas?”

“Anything is good.  Maybe something for my truck, or a movie.”

“Like what for your truck? And what type of movie?”

“A funny one. And anything for my truck.”

What TYPE of funny movie? I know what I find hilarious, usually sarcasm and awkwardness, and some people might not find that funny. Want Will Ferrel funny or Zoolander funny?   And if you don’t tell me specifically what you want for your mudding truck I’m going to buy you a pink fuzzy steering wheel cover, some pimpin’ dice and a flower car seat cover. Makes me feel like a grinch sometimes, but I want straight answers. Like…

A brand new black ferrari. Easy peasy, hotwheels has that on sale for .95 cents right now at Walmart.

A bumper sticker that tells people to back off.  I saw this awesome one that said “If you’re going to ride my ass, at least pull my hair.” Hilarious. I laughed for minutes. I want.

Anywho, I am spending Christmas Eve at work. Making bank.  We had a lovely family here who let me decorate Christmas cookies and eat a scruptiously delicious KFC meal, and gave me a stuffed penguin. 🙂 Sure beats sitting at home watching Nikita, although that’s my newest favorite show, and sadly I am almost finished with the second season and that’s all thats on Netflix right now.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas 🙂 Or Happy Holidays if you don’t celebrate Christmas.

Boredom sucks; go do something!

I get bored easily, mostly because I like to procrastinate and not do what I’m supposed to until hours before it’s due – my grades with back me up on that.  And since finals are just around the corner (thirteen days and 9 hours, but who’s counting) I think I will have even more free time on my hands. Usually when I’m bored I sit in bed and watch television shows on Netflix – my nephew can even attest to that.  One day I was on FaceTime with my sister and nephew and he yelled at me – “AUNT MANDA! GET OUT OF BED NOW” He was used to seeing my pillows as my background, so it’s pretty sad when a 2 year old needs to tell you to get out of bed. Another person who can vouch for me is my roommates boyfriend.

Today I was in the kitchen making food and he walks in and asks me what’s wrong.  I was dumbfounded for a couple seconds but then I realized it’s probably the first time he walked in and I wasn’t laying in my bed or passed on the couch in my pajama’s at 6pm.

Anyways – so I decided to do some research and think about what else I could be doing with my precious time instead of wasting it away watching Netflix, because, honestly, will knowing Elena really loves both Damon & Stefan Salvatore do me any good in real life. Chances are, probably not. But it’s a good show.

Here’s what I came up with-

  • Create a bucket list. Then share it with me!
  • Create a blog.
  • Read a good book.
  • Clean out your e-mail inbox.  Unsubscribe from the annoying companies that fill it up so quickly.
  • Sort through your closets – make piles for storage, garage sale and garbage.
  • Put photos in an album
  • Volunteer
  • Automate your bills so they’re actually paid on time.  (I hate when people give advice and don’t actually use their own advice, which means, I hate myself right now.) If I knew I’d have the money in my account at that time, I’d do it. But…

There’s just a couple. I’ll think of more.

A Long Weekend at Home… finally.

After a couple long weeks at school I was finally able to make it home for Thanksgiving and my boyfriends birthday. And I had an absolutely wonderful time, minus the first tiff with my sister in years.

Wednesday night after my darn presentation for class I packed up and drove the 111 miles home, with no passenger window, in the cold. After I got into town we all went to my sisters house for pizza and game night, and we played Whats Yours Like? It gets really awkard when you play with your mother and her boyfriend. But it was a lot of fun.

Thursday we all went downstate for our Thanksgiving dinner at my mom’s dads house. The weather was gorgeous and the food was really good.  On our way home we stopped at Fifth Third Ballpark for their Christmas decoration display and I headed out to Buckley for the night once I got home.

Friday and Saturday I spent with Jeff since it was his birthday and had a great time, except for drinking a little too much and passing out. How embarrassing.  Saturday he took me out to High Rollaway and two tracking, I can’t wait to do it again. 🙂 Had dinner at Red Lobster, and went to the Courtyard for the night.

Sunday I spent at home resting from the stupic cold I’ve caught, watching a movie with Jeff, eating a delicious sea-food pizza, stopping in to see my dad and saying goodbye before I headed back to boring ol’ Mount Pleasant for 3 more weeks of school before winter break.

Fall semester is almost over… praise beer!

Procrastination is a nasty little buggar, especially when it’s three weeks from finals and you realize you have a a bajillion assignments to finish and turn in before the holidays.  It sucks even worse when the holiday is three days away and you’re running out of hours in the day to do everything you need to get done so you can enjoy the mini-recess before you CRAM six classes worth of information in your wee little brain so you can just barely pass the exam, just in time to let the information steam from your ears as you drink a beer, or five in my case, and cheers to the end of the semester. Phew. I feel better now.

This is my stress releaser – I should be working on a five page film analysis on Road House – which if my homework consists of Patrick Swayze kicking butt, by all means – pile it on.  And then when I get finished with that I should be working on my presentation of Marty’s Bar for Wednesday.  But here I am, and here you are – reading my problems. Since homework isn’t interesting, let me tell you about my past week…

Last Sunday I was watching Road House, go figure, in my living room when I hear a thud.  I look out the window and just assume it’s the bikes hitting the porch railing because it was windy.  A couple seconds later I notice the light in my car is on, I figured my seatbelt got stuck in the door again.  A couple more seconds later, I realized earlier I was sitting on my porch steps smoking a cancer stick and then I came inside,  and I knew my light wasn’t on then.  Then, I heard my car beeping. I knew something was iffy the moment I realized my lights were 100% off.  So I open the door slowly and look around. Nothing.  I go to shut off my lights and there’s broken glass all over the front seats of my car. Great, a branch fell and went through my passenger window.  I go to look at it and nothing but a BIG FREAKING BOULDER sitting on my drivers seat.  It took me a couple seconds to put two and two together and when I did, I RAN.  Run, Forest, RUN! crossed my mind as my roommate and I hurried inside and locked the door behind us.  Grabbed a couple butcher knives and we took off running down the porch looking for the moron.  Just kidding. I called the po-po.

While I waited for them to arrive, I decided to get my information around in case they needed it.  I couldn’t find my newly beloved hot pink purse I just bought a couple weeks ago, so I go to check my car. Duh-me. Dummy. Moron’s took off with my purse.  Joke’s on them. I’m a poor college student.  They did however get a debit and credit card. And my Twilight ticket for the movies. Again, jokes on them. Just kidding – I’m a closet Twi-hard. Team Jacward. They’re both uh-ma-ZING.

Anywho – apparently that was about the 50th time someones broken into a car and stolen a purse, and here I thought I was friggin special.

That was 8 days ago.

Today, I was told the SOB decided he was brave enough, or stupid enough, to try it in the middle of the day.  As I write this, the moron is probably sitting behind bars beggin’ for his momma. Let him beg.

Unfortunately, my purse has not been found. But I did get to go see the last Twilight movie – the kind manager reprinted me a ticket. 🙂

Karma’s a bitch.
And beer is good.

It’s already November!

Oh my goodness! 43 days and 15 hours until Christmas is here, how many of you are ready? I know I’m not.  It’s not even Thanksgiving and Meijer has been playing Christmas music.  My lovely sister, however, has already made or bought nearly all her gifts so we’ll have to see what she decides to do for Black Friday, one of my favorite holidays.

For the past four or five years the girls of my family head out for some early morning shopping and good deals, a lunch break at Red Lobster (always, always, ALWAYS Red Lobster) and back to the sales until at least 3. This year I don’t even know what to get anyone – as we get older people quit saying what they want, or they want things way past my budget (I’m a poor college student). But I am driving my sister crazy cause I don’t have a list. Eh.

Got any ideas for me?

-My mom and her boyfriend just moved into a new house.
-My sister, her fiance and their 2 kids have pretty much everything they need. Maybe wedding stuff?
-My brother and his girlfriend also just moved into an apartment together, with 2 new dogs.
-My boyfriend just bought a truck. And likes to hunt. I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about hunting.
-My dad, well… he has a mullet.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Until next time…

Timeshares? Yes, please!

Back in 2008 I went on a family vacation with my mom, sister and brother – our last family vacation with it being just the four of us and it was one of my most memorable vacations.  We got along great and did so many things in Florida.

One of the days while we were wandering around, my mom got sucked into an offer – come visit our resort, listen to us for 2 hours and we’ll pay you 200! Why the heck not, right?  The entire drive over to the resort my mom made us promise, multiple times, to not let her say yes to the offer. We agreed we wouldn’t.

While she spent the couple hours in the office listening to salespeople, the three of us lounged by one of the many pools in the Florida heat. They came and got us on a golf cart and took us back for a complimentary lunch on the veranda. Afterwards, the sales guy came up and was talking to my mom, practically begging her to sign the papers.  She looked at us and asked if she should get it.  We shook our heads, but said yes!

As she signed hundreds of papers, we laughed at her because we knew she would want it.  She bought a timeshare for Westgate Resorts and there are a bunch of them throughout the United States.

In 2010 we went back to Westgate Resorts in Orlando and the place was gorgeous.  It was my mom and her boyfriend, his two kids, my brother, and my boyfriend and myself – so there were 7 of us.  Our place had a master suite (complete with a jacuzzi), a second room with two queen beds, and a loft with two double beds, plus a living room with a pull out sofa.  We were styling.  Our balcony over looked a pool and hot tub which we used daily.  The main building had a movie theatre, complimentary breakfast and a lot of activities.

In 2011 we went to the Westgate Resort in the Smokey Mountains and it was even more gorgeous.  The log cabins were on the mountainside and we had the top floor to ourselves.  The layout was similar but different.  Instead of the layout like a house it was split into two different rooms – so there were two bedrooms, two living rooms, two kitchens (thank goodness, cause we needed an entire fridge just for our alcoholic beverages). This year it was my mom, my boyfriend and me, my sister and her boyfriend and their son, and then my moms boyfriend and his kids drove out later.  So there were more of us, but we still had a blast and everyone had their own space.

Timeshares may seem like the’re more expensive in the long run, but you really do get what you pay for.
